At L&L Inc, we use the Cut-To-Length (CTL) method in our commercial thinning operations. The CTL method of timber harvesting utilizes a two machine team consisting of a Harvester and Forwarder. The Harvester is used to fell, delimb, buck and sort timber at the stump. The Forwarder then follows to load the sorted log piles and transport them to roadside where they can be loaded onto trucks and delivered to mills. Harvesting is done in front of the machine leaving a ground protecting mat of branches and tops, these "brush mats" create a trail for the Harvester and Forwarder to travel though the forest with minimal impact to the forest floor. CTL timber harvesting works exceptionally well in tight commercial thinnings.
